As many people have debated, the deer population is not what it used to be. The DNR has realized this and are working with Wisconsin on deer conservation. I will tell all the late season hunters to not harvest a doe because they are already bred. This is killing two deer that we would like to see come to the population. Please only kill bucks in the month of December and January.

The hammer dropped on the last day of rifle season in Indiana. I harvested a deer with my 300 win mag as I discussed earlier. BAM. She was at 200 yards broadside and I put an ethical shot right in the vitals.

The rut has started here in southern Indiana. The weekend of November 12th and 13th, I saw 7 does and 3 different bucks. The bucks are chasing and bedding with does. If you are in pursuit in of a giant, the next two weeks will be the best time to harvest a wall hanger. This is also a good time to fill your freezer with natural meat.

WHERE YOUR SAFTEY HARNESS!!!!!!!!! I had a big eye opener this weekend. I was putting up a ladder stand (without a safety harness) and it slid off the tree when I was half way up it. Luckily, it stopped on the tree next to it. I have hung 100s of stands and this is the first one I was scared. Do yourself, your family, and your friends a favor and where a harness. The ground is very unforgiving.

As my post before, I will be reviewing a rifle again. I have recently bought a cheaper combo rifle from rural king. I bought the Ruger American chambered in .243 Winchester magnum. I purchased this rifle mainly for my sister who can not take the recoil associated with big boar rifles. This rifle was topped with a vortex 3x9x40 with the BDC. I zeroed the guy in at 100 yards and it shot a 2 inch group. I moved back to the 300 yard line and it shot a 4-5 inch group. this rifle is definitely not a bench gun, but for the price it is a good hunting rifle. The picture is of my 300 yard group.

The new rifle law in Indiana has me pumped. I just recently bought a .300 Win mag. Just a quick review on what I got. I purchased a Thompson center venture and toped it with a Nikon pro-staff 4x12x40. I paired that with hornady interlock american whitetail edition bullets. I am shooting a 2 1/4 inch group at 300 yards. That unreal for a non modified rifle. I was very impressed with it. Can not wait to harvest a deer with it.
So every body has heard about this clown epidemic. I my opinion it is just a scheme to steal your attention and waste your time. I decided to take this picture to poke fun at the people that take the clown epidemic way to seriously. At least I thought it was funny.

The Weather Leads To Success

It has been a hot one in central Indiana this October. Temperatures for the past week have have been in the mid 80s. Any experienced deer hunters know this sucks! However, on October 22nd temperature dropped to 39 degrees. I got in my stand waiting for a wonderful morning and it happened. At 11:55 a doe walked in and I took her. While I was tracking her I found two of Indiana most delicious fall mushrooms! Chicken of the woods and Hen of the woods. It was a very successful and fun weekend.  The mushrooms are in front of my deer.

Since it was opening weekend to deer archery this weekend I have decided to post what I pack for a half day hunt. I have a backpack arrow quiver combo loaded with beman white outs tipped with rages. I carry a pair of latex gloves and a havalon knife incase I have to field dress a deer. I always pack a water to stay hydrated in the field. The next thing I pack is my release and rangefinder incase I have to make a shot. Even if it is not cold I always bring a warm hat an gloves just in case the weather takes a nasty turn. the goal is to pack light but well. Hope this helps you in your next outdoor adventure.

Welcome outdoors men and women,

My blog is going to be about my personal stories on hunting, fishing, and other outdoor adventures. I will also perform field test on some gear and compare them to see which one is best for you. I encourage you to leave your own stories on here so we can all learn from it. As outdoors men and women we always strive to learn new strategies to harvest that trophy of a life time. Please no anti hunting comments on here. If you do not like or you are against hunting, remember that you do not have to be one here. I have added a picture of a mule deer I harvested in Wyoming last year.

Good luck harvesting a trophy
this year,
